Moon Taxi Rides Back Through Kentucky
The Moon Taxi winter tour rides back through Kentucky tonight, for another stop at Headliners Music Hall In Louisville. In the short time since the band's stop at Headliners back in September, Moon Taxi have certainly kept themselves on the road and busy.
Fresh off a run through the deep south opening for Matisyahu, the band rolled through Lexington, Kentucky's newly opened venue, Cosmic Charlies, on 11/21/09. It is no secret that the band has often proclaimed 'Lexvegas' as one of their "favorite cities to play in the country." With close to three years of blowing the roof off Lexington's, now closed venue, The Fishtank, the night would mark their first time taking the stage of the new, double the capacity, and improved venue across the street.
Nonetheless, the band was obviously unaffected by any of the factors that could possibly affect the evening's attendance, and hit the stage with a 'business as usual' swagger and wasted no time as they compiled the 1st set with a mix of old and new songs littered with drops into some very deep and dark oriented jams. As they brought the first set to a close, the venue was at over half capacity.

Early in the evening there were murmurs throughout the thin crowd questioning as to whether or not the band would fill the venue. With Cosmic Charlies having worked to re-brand and shed the old Fishtank image of being a "jam band" venue (a wise marketing decision in itself) added along with the factor of assumption, that the majority of Moon Taxi's Lexington fan base were more than likely seeing Phish just an hour away in Cincinnati; the murmurs did seemingly have some validity to them.
Nonetheless, the band was obviously unaffected by any of the factors that could possibly affect the evening's attendance, and hit the stage with a 'business as usual' swagger and wasted no time as they compiled the 1st set with a mix of old and new songs littered with drops into some very deep and dark oriented jams. Starting off the second set, it was more than obvious that the early evening murmurs had most certainly been laid to rest, as the band walked out to the eager Lexington fan base they have come to know so well. In return, the band delivered a long second set packed full of all that defines a superb Moon Taxi show.
Based on Moon Taxi's 9/12/09 stop in the Ville the band's return to Headliners tonight should prove to be well worth making the trip out to see if you are in the area. Doors open around 8pm and there are still tickets available.
